    Dag Waikit,

just wanted to wish you all the best and say i’ll be following your process! You’re actually doing what I’d like to, dammit! I was in Shanghai (and Taipei) 2 years ago, checking out the scene, but found it pretty hard without speaking mandarin. So now I’m ’stuck’ at Scope Design in Amersfoort. Not giving up my dream just yet, so lemme know if you find any open positions over there ;)
Hope you’ll find bundles of fun!

Thanks guys for the nice posts!
Philippe, keep trying mailing design studios here. Some of them might be interested in western designers who are not able to speak mandarin. My company doesn’t require designers to speak Chinese, cause english is our spoken language.

    Dear Arturo,

I am not sure if there is any master program here in Shanghai. You can check:

I heard that TsingHua university from Beijing got a master degree.

    Hi Waikit,

Just found your site via product design forums and I like your approach to design. I have been working in Shanghai now for a year in toy design and will be leaving the big smog for Hangzhou, for a new job in tool design and freelance in sporting equipment later next week.

Always nice to make new contacts, if you would like to talk send an email to me address or you can get my number off the Italian girl Maria who picked up at Asentio when you left.

How is your own work going?

    Cheers,

    Warran.

Hi Warran, thanks for dropping by and leaving some nice comments about my design approach. Nice that you know Maria. All the best at your new job in Hanzhou. Keep in touch, Waikit

    Hello Cain,

Sorry for the late reply, but here is my answer on your question:
You can try to apply at Raffles Design for their bachelor degree program in product design. I believe it is the only program in Shanghai for international students.

    Best wishes,

    Waikit

    Hi Waikit,

Like you, I’m also a Dutch born Hong Kong Chinese and I’m studying industrial design in Delft too.

In 2007/2008 I spent one year in China and I also believe that there is a bright future for designers in China. Now that I’m in the last year of my studies, I’m looking for a graduation project in Shanghai.

A few weeks ago I’ve tried to apply for asentio design, but just found out that they quit. Can you help me further? Do you know any interesting companies in Shanghai that are looking for graduation students?

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Waikit,

I just found your website as I was going through my database of company names to research for my own work. What happened to Asentio? Also, are you still in Shanghai. I am working as an international designer here too, and would love to go for coffee/tea with you one day.

    Let me know!
